DAVID TRUMMER HAS TWO TOP 15 PLACINGS AND CLIMBS IN WORLD CUP OVERALL
After the disastrous wet weather at the 2nd round of the World Cup in Les Gets (FRA) which ruined the chances of many top riders, it’s been nothing but dust and heat here in Slovenia. With temperatures in the mid 30’s and no rain all week, the racing saw a lot of crashing and injuries. One of the victims was Oisin O’Callaghan who crushed in the lower section of his qualifier and although not injured, missed the cut for qualifying.
David Trummer scored a great top 10 in qualifying, finishing 9th and was set for an even greater run in the finals, however mid-way down while leaning into a corner and braking, the bike bucked backwards and the back of the seat hit him in his ‘private parts’ causing a lot of pain. Managing to get to the line in 13th, Dave jumps 11 places in the overall up to 16th at the half way point of the season.
Dave said: “I was really trying to push in my race run today. Maybe a little bit too much in some parts because I hit my balls half way down, and I was in a fair bit of pain for the rest of the run. So I made it to the finish, in some pain, which means I’m not super happy with my race run, but I’ll take it.”
In the Junior Men’s final the times were super tight from 3rd downwards. Guy Johnston who qualified 18th moved up to 14th in the final, and that was with a couple of significant mistakes in the lower half of the course, without which, he would have placed 9th. Guy was very happy overall with his performance on this demanding track.
Guy said: “Times were tight today! A couple of mistakes cost me. I was right on the tail end of the tight times unfortunately but it’s good to know the speed is there on a fast and rough track, which is giving me confidence going into the World Champs.”
Next up it’s time for the World Championships, being held on the famous Val Si Sole Black Snake track in two weeks from now. Most of the team will travel to Italy tomorrow to begin preparations. Dakotah Norton, who unfortunately tested positive for Covid last week, plans to join the team later next week once his quarantine time has passed and he has the all clear.
